Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B.

There is reaching, and then there is John Williams at the Round 7 slot. The Steelers jumped the board by 36 and dared it to prove them wrong. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Bond at that price is a win they earned. They went 4 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In No. 25 they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick79 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
A reasonable price with a little left over, Maxwell Hairston in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick83 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
A tidy bit of business in slot 83, where Isaiah Bond graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick123 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
No drama and no debate, Emery Jones Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 123. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick156 Rnd5 DJ Giddens
The board had cheaper options than DJ Giddens at pick 156, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick185 Rnd6 CJ West
CJ West at Round 6, Pick 9 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick229 Rnd7 John Williams
John Williams at pick 229 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
