Thornton Jr. should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 229th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a wrecking ball inside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick83 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Quinshon Judkins in No. 83, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123 Rnd4 Denzel Burke
They read the board right and Denzel Burke was the payoff at slot 123. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick156 Rnd5 Miles Frazier
Circle this one: Miles Frazier at the 156th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at the 185th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick229 Rnd7 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 229 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
