Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA
A franchise passer in Williams headlines a D weekend for the 49ers.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The 49ers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Getting Murphy where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They are betting Holker proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 4 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick17 Rnd1 Michael Penix Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a long-term answer under center, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick18 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
In the 18th pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27 Rnd1 JC Latham
In pick 27 they get a blindside protector, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick31 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In No. 31 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Nate Wiggins
Nate Wiggins is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick40 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in the 40th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick63 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy slid further than he should have, and pick No. 63 is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick78 Rnd3 Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie in pick 78 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94 Rnd3 Austin Booker
Austin Booker slipping to the 94th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick100 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Gabriel Murphy at the 100th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick124 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Fair-plus on Tyler Davis, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick131 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at No. 131 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick133 Rnd4 Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at pick No. 133 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in slot 138, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139 Rnd5 Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker in No. 139 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick152 Rnd5 Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube in pick 152 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jaheim Bell
They let Jaheim Bell come to them and pounced at the 176th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
The board had Joe Milton III higher than the 211th pick, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick215 Rnd6 Grayson Murphy
Steal is underselling it; Grayson Murphy at pick No. 215 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick222 Rnd7 Kendall Milton
Kendall Milton at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick251 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
The board fumbled Frank Gore Jr. all the way to slot 251, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
