Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The 49ers won the night they stopped Skattebo from sliding. Grade: B+.

Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 110 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

Reaching for Batty left real value on the table behind him. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Mike Green
In the 22nd overall pick they get a problem off the edge, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
A tidy bit of business in slot 43, where Derrick Harmon graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick49 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in pick 49 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick55 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 55 with a little surplus value in Xavier Watts. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75 Rnd3 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at the 75th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick91 Rnd3 Azareye'h Thomas
They took Azareye'h Thomas at par in Round 3, Pick 27, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick99 Rnd3 Ajani Cornelius
A straight-up fair deal on Ajani Cornelius at No. 99, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111 Rnd4 Mason Taylor
The board had Mason Taylor higher than the Round 4 slot, and the tight end fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick137 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 137 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick152 Rnd5 Smael Mondon Jr.
Somehow Smael Mondon Jr. was still sitting there in the 152nd pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick170 Rnd5 CJ West
CJ West in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick185 Rnd6 Sam Brown
A big swing on Sam Brown at Round 6, Pick 10, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick191 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
They paid up for Seth McLaughlin at the 191st overall pick when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick213 Rnd6 Tyler Batty
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyler Batty in pick 213, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick226 Rnd7 Cam Skattebo
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick230 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at slot 230 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick249 Rnd7 Nick Martin
Good price on Nick Martin in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick255 Rnd7 Micah Morris
Micah Morris at Round 7, Pick 39 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
