Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Skattebo should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Cam Skattebo tumbling to the 49ers in No. 226 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

With wide receiver, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In No. 11 they get a disruptive interior force. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Circle this one: Malaki Starks at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick75 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in the 75th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jake Majors
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jake Majors in slot 99. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick111 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
A surprising call. With wide receiver, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent pick No. 111 on Andrew Mukuba, a safety they were not short of.
Pick137 Rnd4 Barrett Carter
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Barrett Carter in the 137th pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick185 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
They robbed the room for Oronde Gadsden II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick226 Rnd7 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at pick 226 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick230 Rnd7 Jonah Monheim
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jonah Monheim in Round 7, Pick 14. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at slot 249 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick255 Rnd7 Ja'Quinden Jackson
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 255 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
