Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
A
ValueA-

FutureA+
A franchise passer in Williams headlines a A weekend for the Commanders. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The King pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Reaching for Bell left real value on the table behind him.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Caleb Williams and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 9th overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Amarius Mims in slot 34. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick52
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Circle this one: Kamari Lassiter at Round 2, Pick 20 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick59
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 59 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick68
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at pick No. 68 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick85
Rnd3
Kalen King
The board fumbled Kalen King all the way to pick 85, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick100
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Marist Liufau at the 100th pick is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick102
Rnd4
Javon Bullard
They robbed the room for Javon Bullard here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick103
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the 103rd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104
Rnd4
Bucky Irving
Nice patience on Bucky Irving, who had no business lasting to pick 104. It fills a real need, too.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick133
Rnd4
Isaiah Adams
Good price on Isaiah Adams in Round 4, Pick 33, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jacob Cowing
You do not let a wide receiver like Jacob Cowing reach the 136th overall pick and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
