Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
C

NeedB-
TradesF
FutureB-
The phones sank the Commanders this weekend: C. Some picks age like wine; Roman Hemby at the Round 6 slot will need to, sitting 165 spots clear of his grade.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with offensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. However the rest shakes out, Sabb at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 10 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. More want than need.
Pick44
Rnd2
CJ Allen
They zigged when the board said zag, taking CJ Allen at linebacker with offensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick73
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick82
Rnd3
A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington at slot 82 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick100
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
Circle this one: Keon Sabb at pick 100 is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
They reached into another round for Jermaine Mathews Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
The board had cheaper options than Tanner Koziol at the 152nd overall pick, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick186
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Nwankpa at No. 186, value and slot in agreement. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick190
Rnd6
Roman Hemby
They reached a country mile for Roman Hemby at the 190th pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
Dominic Zvada at Round 7, Pick 9 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
