Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
The Bears worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. Nobody else had Darius Robinson anywhere near slot 39. The Bears did, by 82 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Josh Uche pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In pick 6 they get a mismatch in the passing game at fair value.
Pick15
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 15 they get a difference-maker at receiver, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin in the 34th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick39
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at Round 2, Pick 7 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick50
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They jumped the gun on Zach Frazier, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
A reach on Malachi Corley in the 68th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick79
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at pick 79 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick96
Rnd3
Michael Pratt
They paid up for Michael Pratt at the 96th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick115
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick123
Rnd4
Brandon Coleman
Brandon Coleman in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
