There is conviction, and then there is this. The 49ers took Phillip Webb a full 107 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

However the rest shakes out, Mukuba at that price is a win they earned. With wide receiver, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
