Draft Grade — Bills

Emmanwori should have been long gone. The Bills pounced, and earned a B-.

Somebody in the 62nd pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bills sat still while Nick Emmanwori, the No. 20 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, running back and other spots went begging. They will need Mills to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Benjamin Morrison
They liked Benjamin Morrison enough to skip the value, taking him in the 30th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick56 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at slot 56, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick62 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the 62nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick109 Rnd4 Rylie Mills
This one needs a full-page explanation: Rylie Mills in Round 4, Pick 7, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick132 Rnd4 Cobee Bryant
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cobee Bryant adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback, running back and other spots untouched.
Pick169 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at pick 169 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170 Rnd5 Andres Borregales
Nice patience on Andres Borregales, who had no business lasting to pick No. 170. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick173 Rnd5 CJ West
CJ West at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick177 Rnd6 Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
They jumped the gun on Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in No. 206 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
