FutureA+
The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the B-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Christian Mahogany at the Round 5 slot is 54 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Legette falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
JC Latham
In slot 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that.
Pick35
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
No edge and no loss on J.J. McCarthy in pick No. 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick36
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in pick 36 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick140
Rnd5
Christian Mahogany
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Christian Mahogany well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
