FutureD-
The Seahawks bet the future on Daniels. The board says F. The Seahawks did not so much draft Jeremy Moussa as overpay for him, 192 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Spending an early pick on safety with running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In pick No. 8 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
A tidy little value on Tyler Nubin in the 35th pick, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick43
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 11. The roster fit checks out.
Pick50
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
A surprising call. With running back still to address, they spent the 50th overall pick on Calen Bullock, a safety they were not short of.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 58, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick65
Rnd3
Adisa Isaac
By-the-book stuff, Adisa Isaac at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick74
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes in the 74th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick78
Rnd3
Byron Murphy II
A reasonable price with a little left over, Byron Murphy II in the Round 3 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick79
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE and leaves running back untouched.
Pick104
Rnd4
Marshawn Kneeland
Marshawn Kneeland at slot 104 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109
Rnd4
Junior Colson
No edge and no loss on Junior Colson in pick 109; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick118
Rnd4
Cade Stover
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cade Stover at TE-EDGE with running back open.
Pick133
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at No. 133 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick137
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in pick No. 137 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick154
Rnd5
Ainias Smith
They paid sticker price for Ainias Smith in pick 154, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick157
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson in the 157th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick172
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Justin Eboigbe. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick175
Rnd5
Christian Jones
They took Christian Jones at par in the 175th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick194
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick195
Rnd6
Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin at pick No. 195 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214
Rnd6
Khordae Sydnor
A wild overpay on Khordae Sydnor in slot 214, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick216
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at No. 216 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick218
Rnd6
Jayson Jones
A real head-scratcher, Jayson Jones in the 218th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jeremy Moussa
They reached a country mile for Jeremy Moussa at No. 236, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
