Draft Grade — Saints
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
Ward is the Saints' new face under center. Grade: A-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Cam Ward is the Saints' quarterback, full stop. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.

They are betting Baron proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Skattebo.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In slot 23 they get the arm they will build around, outstanding value to boot.
Pick40 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Derrick Harmon in No. 40. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick71 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
They will replay Xavier Watts at Round 3, Pick 7 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick93 Rnd3 Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron at pick No. 93 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 111th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at the 130th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick186 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
The board had Jack Nelson higher than the Round 6 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick254 Rnd7 Ben Yurosek
Ben Yurosek in pick 254 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
