Nobody dealt better than the Saints this weekend: A-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Saints reached some 69 spots for Kyren Lacy, and value like that does not grow back.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
In the end it comes back to Malaki Starks, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Malaki Starks
In No. 30 they get an enforcer at safety, and a steal at that.
Pick61
Rnd2
Barrett Carter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Barrett Carter at the 61st overall pick is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick65
Rnd3
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. in Round 3, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick104
Rnd4
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III at the 104th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in pick 142 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick147
Rnd5
Joshua Gray
By-the-book stuff, Joshua Gray at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick154
Rnd5
Kyren Lacy
Kyren Lacy at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick246
Rnd7
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at No. 246 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Seth McLaughlin. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
