Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall

FutureB-
The phones sank the Bengals this weekend: D-. The phones were a trap the Bengals kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
If Zinter pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lovett.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 18 they get a go-to option on the outside, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick24
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In No. 24 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
Nothing to complain about; T'Vondre Sweat went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick80
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They went early on Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zak Zinter this early at the 87th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick97
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in Round 3, Pick 34 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick115
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at the 115th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149
Rnd5
Ainias Smith
Nice patience on Ainias Smith, who had no business lasting to pick No. 149. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick194
Rnd6
Fabien Lovett
Value with a capital V on Fabien Lovett in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in pick 214 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
