Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
A passer of the future in McCarthy, and a B+, for the Seahawks.

When a board-topper like Jaylin Simpson slides to slot 235, you do not overthink it, and the Seahawks did not.

J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In the 29th pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick57 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Fair-plus on Chris Braswell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick73 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick81 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard in the 81st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick89 Rnd3 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at pick No. 89 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
No drama and no debate, Theo Johnson went about where he belonged in pick 102. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick118 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at slot 118 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick192 Rnd6 Javion Cohen
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javion Cohen. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick235 Rnd7 Jaylin Simpson
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 15 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick246 Rnd7 Bub Means
Bub Means in the 246th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick253 Rnd7 Kendall Milton
Kendall Milton at pick No. 253 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
