Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesD- FutureA+
The Seahawks bled value on every deal, hence the B-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Seahawks did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Getting Barron where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick40 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Watts at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick63 Rnd2 Bryson Nesbit
Bryson Nesbit slid further than he should have, and the 63rd overall pick is lovely value for the tight end. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick80 Rnd3 Jay Higgins
They paid sticker price for Jay Higgins in Round 3, Pick 16, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick104 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 104 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick112 Rnd4 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at No. 112 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jahdae Barron
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jahdae Barron at safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick200 Rnd7 Carson Hinzman
Carson Hinzman in slot 200 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick218 Rnd7 Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at pick 218 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
