Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Bears won the night they stopped Slaughter from sliding. Grade: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jake Slaughter had no business being available in No. 89, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks in pick 57 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick60 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
Nice patience on A.J. Haulcy, who had no business lasting to the 60th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in No. 89 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick129 Rnd4 Isaiah World
Isaiah World in the 129th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jeff Caldwell
Taking Jeff Caldwell in pick No. 239 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241 Rnd7 TJ Hall
TJ Hall at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
