Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bears did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The needs board said one thing and the Bears did another, using Round 3, Pick 25 on Adon Shuler while edge rusher, running back and other spots waited. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thieneman. They are betting Barton proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
No edge and no loss on Kayden McDonald in the Round 1 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick57
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the safety. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick89
Rnd3
Adon Shuler
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Adon Shuler at safety with edge rusher, running back and other spots open.
Pick129
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
They paid sticker price for J.C. Davis in slot 129, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick164
Rnd5
Lander Barton
They jumped the gun on Lander Barton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick239
Rnd7
Tony Grimes
Tony Grimes in the 239th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick241
Rnd7
PJ Williams
A clean, defensible pick in the 241st overall pick with a little surplus value in PJ Williams. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
