The Seahawks did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The curious call sets the tone. With quarterback, running back and other spots still glaring, the Seahawks used No. 81 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not exactly short of. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Franklin value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

In pick 16 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.

Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with quarterback, running back and other spots open.

They paid sticker price for Sataoa Laumea in Round 4, Pick 18, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

No drama and no debate, Cedric Johnson went about where he belonged in the 154th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick194 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at pick No. 194 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236 Rnd7 Zakhari Franklin
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zakhari Franklin in pick 236. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
