When a board-topper like Kade Pieper slides to pick 78, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. The 49ers paired the rookies with proven help, Emeka Egbuka leading the way.

The cost of the Staley reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
