Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureD+
Lew should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a D-.

The war room fell hard for Trey Moore, and it showed at the Round 6 slot: 36 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. On value alone, Lew makes the weekend a net positive.

Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In the 32nd overall pick they get an every-down engine for the run game at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick52 Rnd2 Denzel Boston
Taking Denzel Boston in pick No. 52 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Max Klare
Max Klare at pick 56 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick60 Rnd2 Suntarine Perkins
No drama and no debate, Suntarine Perkins went about where he belonged in slot 60. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick76 Rnd3 Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick85 Rnd3 Connor Lew
Steal is underselling it; Connor Lew at No. 85 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick89 Rnd3 Chase Bisontis
They talked themselves into Chase Bisontis at Round 3, Pick 25, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick96 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Harold Perkins Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103 Rnd4 Keon Sabb
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Keon Sabb in slot 103, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick112 Rnd4 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart in the 112th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick121 Rnd4 Kage Casey
Kage Casey at pick No. 121 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick128 Rnd4 Rayshaun Benny
Rayshaun Benny at the 128th pick is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick134 Rnd4 Ahmaad Moses
A curious use of Round 4, Pick 32. Quarterback needed the pick; a safety in Ahmaad Moses did not.
Pick137 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick167 Rnd5 Jaishawn Barham
They reached a country mile for Jaishawn Barham at the 167th overall pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick174 Rnd5 Barion Brown
Barion Brown in pick 174 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick199 Rnd6 Trey Moore
Trey Moore in the 199th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick206 Rnd6 Alex Birchmeier
They went early on Alex Birchmeier in No. 206, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jamari Lyons
Jamari Lyons in slot 241 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
