Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesF FutureB
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

The 49ers clearly saw something nobody else did in Rondell Bothroyd, taking him 126 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In slot 20 they get a weapon on the perimeter, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at pick 36 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick63 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 31 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick124 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 124 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
They took Roger Rosengarten at par in the 131st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
They paid up for Mason McCormick at No. 133 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick139 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
A straight-up fair deal on Ainias Smith at pick No. 139, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick153 Rnd5 Emani Bailey
A real head-scratcher, Emani Bailey in the 153rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jaheim Bell
They let Jaheim Bell come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 1. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Keith Randolph Jr.
They paid a round early for Keith Randolph Jr. in the Round 6 slot, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick215 Rnd6 Daijahn Anthony
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Daijahn Anthony well ahead of where he belonged. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick222 Rnd7 Daequan Hardy
They left a pile of value on the table to take Daequan Hardy this early at the 222nd overall pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick251 Rnd7 Rondell Bothroyd
Rondell Bothroyd at pick 251 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
