Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureD-
The 49ers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B-.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Joe Milton III at pick 131, a reach of 69 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jones. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

The veteran additions, Drake London chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
Nice patience on T.J. Tampa, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 31. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick74 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in slot 74 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in pick No. 94, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick124 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
They reached a country mile for Justin Eboigbe at No. 124, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick131 Rnd4 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick 131 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick133 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
A reach on Mason McCormick in the 133rd pick; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick143 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in Round 5, Pick 7 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick158 Rnd5 Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in pick No. 158 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick176 Rnd6 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith is a better player than the 176th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick184 Rnd6 Myles Cole
The board had cheaper options than Myles Cole at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick198 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs at pick 198 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick211 Rnd6 Emani Bailey
Emani Bailey in No. 211 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick215 Rnd6 Bub Means
Value said wait; Bub Means in slot 215 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241 Rnd7 Sheridan Jones
Steal is underselling it; Sheridan Jones at No. 241 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick251 Rnd7 LaDarius Henderson
A straight-up fair deal on LaDarius Henderson at the 251st pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
