Sharo DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
C
ValueF
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers landed square in the muddy middle: C. You can hear the double-takes from here. The 49ers took Derrick Moore at pick No. 27, roughly 71 spots before his name belonged. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
If Derrick Moore and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Derrick Moore
In the 27th pick they get a disruptor off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields at No. 58 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick92
Rnd3
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127
Rnd4
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
By-the-book stuff, Ar'maj Reed-Adams at Round 4, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133
Rnd4
Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard at slot 133 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd4
Kyle Louis
A straight-up fair deal on Kyle Louis at pick 138, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick171
Rnd5
Eric McAlister
They took Eric McAlister at par in slot 171, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
