Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

The Steelers torched the value chart for Sam Hartman, taking him 44 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In slot 20 they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him.
Pick51 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
Nothing to complain about; T.J. Tampa went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick84 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick120 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick121 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Roger Rosengarten adds an offensive lineman and leaves interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick197 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
A straight-up fair deal on Curtis Jacobs at pick 197, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick238 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman in slot 238 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
