The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 86 spots for John Morgan III, and value like that does not grow back. It bottoms out at a F.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

Getting Ford where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
