The Seahawks jumped the board for Cohen and paid for it: F. The Seahawks looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Javion Cohen at Round 4, Pick 18 regardless, 31 picks early. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. With wide receiver, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on TE-EDGE is the choice that costs them. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with wide receiver still staring back at them.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In No. 16 they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
They paid sticker price for T.J. Tampa in pick 39, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick43
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They talked themselves into Zach Frazier at slot 43, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Junior Colson
Junior Colson in the 70th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick78
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves wide receiver, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick112
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at slot 112 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick118
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
A real head-scratcher, Javion Cohen in the 118th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick154
Rnd5
Justin Rogers
No drama and no debate, Justin Rogers went about where he belonged in No. 154. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick190
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
The board had cheaper options than Jaylen Harrell at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick194
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Christian Jones at the 194th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick234
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Nice patience on Daequan Hardy, who had no business lasting to pick No. 234. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick236
Rnd7
Maurice Smith
Maurice Smith at pick 236 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
