Draft Grade — Vikings

FutureA-
The Vikings drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: D. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Vikings, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Sweat left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick No. 4 they get a passer to set the clock by. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick21
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
A tidy little value on Chop Robinson in No. 44, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick52
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at pick 52 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick85
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Nothing to complain about; Cooper Beebe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick108
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
They let Tykee Smith come to them and pounced at the 108th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick120
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Jarrian Jones at slot 120, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick130
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick148
Rnd5
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at Round 5, Pick 12 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick160
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
A quiet steal in slot 160: Ty'Ron Hopper for less than the market said. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick165
Rnd5
Frank Gore Jr.
They took Frank Gore Jr. at par in the 165th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick179
Rnd6
Andru Phillips
The board had Andru Phillips higher than pick No. 179, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick230
Rnd7
Dylan McMahon
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dylan McMahon. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
