Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bengals, and a B- to prove it.

Nobody else had Willie Lampkin anywhere near Round 7, Pick 34. The Bengals did, by 65 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jones. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In pick 18 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
A reach for T'Vondre Sweat in the 49th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Tommy Eichenberg
They paid up for Tommy Eichenberg at slot 100 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick102 Rnd4 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 102 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick115 Rnd4 Jahdae Barron
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jahdae Barron. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick151 Rnd5 Moose Muhammad III
By-the-book stuff, Moose Muhammad III at No. 151 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick173 Rnd5 Trey Knox
They went early on Trey Knox in the 173rd pick, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick196 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
A real head-scratcher, Dwight McGlothern in the 196th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick238 Rnd7 Sheridan Jones
Somehow Sheridan Jones was still sitting there in pick 238, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick254 Rnd7 Willie Lampkin
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Willie Lampkin. A need, and now a little less of one.
