Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesF FutureA+
The Packers cashed the board's mistake on McMillan: B-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Packers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

On value alone, McMillan makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The cost of the Cephus reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick41 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at the 41st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick58 Rnd2 Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at pick No. 58 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88 Rnd3 Max Melton
They read the board right and Max Melton was the payoff at the 88th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick95 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at No. 95 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan at slot 126 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick132 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
No edge and no loss on Roger Rosengarten in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick169 Rnd5 Layden Robinson
They paid sticker price for Layden Robinson in slot 169, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick206 Rnd6 Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace in the 206th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick219 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford is a better player than the 219th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick220 Rnd6 Jaden Crumedy
Jaden Crumedy at pick No. 220 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick243 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
A reach for Tyler Owens in pick 243; a little patience would have been rewarded. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick245 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
A big swing on Joshua Cephus at Round 7, Pick 25, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick255 Rnd7 Austin Reed
They left a pile of value on the table to take Austin Reed this early at the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
