Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Broncos robbed the room for Foster. Final grade: B. The real work happened on the phones. The Broncos fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Foster steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They are betting Wilson proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
A tidy little value on J.J. McCarthy in the 35th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick73
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick76
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
Nice patience on Kiran Amegadjie, who had no business lasting to slot 76. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick83
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker in Round 3, Pick 19 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick88
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in pick 88 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90
Rnd3
Cam Hart
They jumped the gun on Cam Hart, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick93
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
A premium they did not need to pay, Leonard Taylor III a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick95
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
Nothing to complain about; Bucky Irving went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick101
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 1 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick102
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in pick 102 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick121
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A reach for Ben Sinnott in pick No. 121; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick136
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
They did well to land Mohamed Kamara in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick145
Rnd5
Javon Foster
Javon Foster in the 145th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones slipping to No. 147 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick169
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
They will replay Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 169 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick176
Rnd6
Grayson Murphy
No drama and no debate, Grayson Murphy went about where he belonged in the 176th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
A straight-up fair deal on Jared Wiley at Round 6, Pick 28, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
