Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall F
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureC
A weekend the Steelers spent fighting the board, and losing. F.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Steelers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. There is no dressing it up: a F.

The Sinnott pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Frazier pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots still on the board. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Landing Goncalves that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left interior defensive lineman open, and the grade is the bill.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in the 43rd overall pick, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick52 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
A curious use of No. 52. Interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Zach Frazier did not.
Pick84 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Junior Colson in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick95 Rnd3 Spencer Rattler
A clean, defensible pick in slot 95 with a little surplus value in Spencer Rattler. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick120 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ben Sinnott this early at Round 4, Pick 20. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 121 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Matt Goncalves at offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots open.
