Guyton should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Tyler Guyton tumbling to the Patriots in pick 66 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
A straight-up fair deal on Adonai Mitchell at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick66
Rnd3
Tyler Guyton
Taking Tyler Guyton in the 66th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick83
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
The board had Brenden Rice higher than pick No. 83, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick90
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Somehow Trey Benson was still sitting there in pick 90, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in slot 103; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick139
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in No. 139 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at the 182nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick224
Rnd7
Kingsley Eguakun
Kingsley Eguakun at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick232
Rnd7
BJ Mayes
BJ Mayes in slot 232 is fair value, right on his grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
