Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
D+
ValueB

TradesF
FutureA+
Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a D+ for the Browns. The Browns treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 5 slot on DJ Campbell a full 30 spots early. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. The Scott steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick21
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 21 they get a green-dot type in the middle. More want than need.
Pick24
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38
Rnd2
Caleb Lomu
Caleb Lomu at pick 38 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick54
Rnd2
Chris Bell
Chris Bell is a better player than the 54th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jake Slaughter at slot 55 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69
Rnd3
Germie Bernard
A reasonable price with a little left over, Germie Bernard in No. 69. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104
Rnd4
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
No edge and no loss on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the 104th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick134
Rnd4
Xavier Scott
You do not let a cornerback like Xavier Scott reach pick No. 134 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick146
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
They liked Max Iheanachor enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 6. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
A wild overpay on DJ Campbell in the 147th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick150
Rnd5
Derrick Moore
They took Derrick Moore at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick241
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
A quiet steal in slot 241: Trey Zuhn III for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick245
Rnd7
Nolan Rucci
Nolan Rucci slid further than he should have, and pick 245 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
