Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall

TradesB
FutureB-
The Commanders kept it disciplined and banked a B-. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Makari Paige at Round 7, Pick 29, a reach of 67 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
On value alone, Thornton Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
By-the-book stuff, Azareye'h Thomas at No. 56 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They did well to land Jayden Higgins in the 62nd pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They paid up for Ozzy Trapilo at Round 3, Pick 7 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo at the 112th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Cody Simon
No edge and no loss on Cody Simon in slot 128; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick132
Rnd4
Bhayshul Tuten
They reached into another round for Bhayshul Tuten, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick169
Rnd5
Que Robinson
A real head-scratcher, Que Robinson in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick200
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. slipping to pick 200 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick205
Rnd6
Cam Jackson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cam Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick216
Rnd6
Desmond Watson
A conviction pick on Desmond Watson at pick No. 216 that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick245
Rnd7
Makari Paige
Makari Paige at Round 7, Pick 29 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
