Nobody else had Devin Culp anywhere near pick 251. The 49ers did, by 53 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. It is not that Newton is a bad player; it is that the 49ers had louder needs to answer first.

Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Abrams-Draine falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
