The Steelers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with Ty'Ron Hopper in slot 120. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The Steelers indulged a want in Suamataia while a need in quarterback, edge rusher and other spots stayed open.
They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a blindside protector. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kingsley Suamataia adds an offensive lineman and leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick84
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at slot 84 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick119
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in pick No. 119; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120
Rnd4
Ty'Ron Hopper
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ty'Ron Hopper this early at No. 120. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178
Rnd6
Tip Reiman
Tip Reiman in pick 178 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick195
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at slot 195 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
