FutureA+
No fireworks, just a tidy B+ for the Steelers. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Steelers took Donovan Smith at pick 173, roughly 82 spots before his name belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
The Phillips steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Adding Zaven Collins by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick83
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Value with a capital V on Maxwell Hairston in Round 3, Pick 19, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
The board had Jordan Phillips higher than No. 123, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick173
Rnd5
Donovan Smith
They talked themselves into Donovan Smith at slot 173, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185
Rnd6
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at pick 185 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick206
Rnd6
Tahj Brooks
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tahj Brooks in the 206th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
