The Steelers kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Steelers took J.C. Davis a full 25 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Davis pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots.

Getting Pregnon where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
In No. 21 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
A slide stopped in the 53rd pick, with Emmanuel Pregnon worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick76 Rnd3 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter slid further than he should have, and the 76th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick85 Rnd3 Julian Neal
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Julian Neal for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick99 Rnd3 J.C. Davis
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, J.C. Davis adds an offensive lineman and leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at pick 121 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick135 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
They paid sticker price for Domani Jackson in Round 4, Pick 35, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick159 Rnd5 Bud Clark
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bud Clark well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jordan White
They liked Jordan White enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick214 Rnd6 PJ Williams
A reach for PJ Williams in the 214th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick224 Rnd7 Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney at slot 224 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jamari Lyons
They talked themselves into Jamari Lyons at pick No. 237, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
