Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on King: B+.

The Steelers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Kobe King, the No. 126 name on the board, in Round 7, Pick 7. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

They are betting Morris proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
Fair-plus on Tyler Warren, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick52 Rnd2 Matthew Golden
Matthew Golden is a better player than slot 52 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick83 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Xavier Watts in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89 Rnd3 Kyle McCord
Kyle McCord in pick No. 89 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick121 Rnd4 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at the 121st pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick126 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. in the 126th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick161 Rnd5 Cam Skattebo
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at No. 161 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick223 Rnd7 Kobe King
Kobe King in Round 7, Pick 7 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick229 Rnd7 Micah Morris
Micah Morris at the 229th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick245 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
