A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Nathan Thomas; the Steelers did not wait, grabbing him 51 spots ahead at slot 178.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Nate Wiggins
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
A reach for Zach Frazier in pick No. 51; a little patience would have been rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick84 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
They went early on Brenden Rice in the 84th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick98 Rnd3 Maason Smith
A reach on Maason Smith in pick 98; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick119 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
They reached into another round for Tykee Smith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick178 Rnd6 Nathan Thomas
Value said wait; Nathan Thomas in No. 178 says they were not listening. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick195 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Frank Gore Jr. this early at No. 195. The roster fit checks out.
