FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Steelers a B+. The Steelers did not so much draft Shilo Sanders as overpay for him, 32 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Landing Nesbit that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Steelers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the 24th overall pick they get a true top target at fair value.
Pick46
Rnd2
Shilo Sanders
A real head-scratcher, Shilo Sanders in pick 46 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick56
Rnd2
Mykel Williams
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mykel Williams in No. 56. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick78
Rnd3
Deion Burks
Deion Burks in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick88
Rnd3
Anthony Belton
No edge and no loss on Anthony Belton in the 88th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick120
Rnd4
Brennan Presley
Brennan Presley in Round 4, Pick 24 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick142
Rnd5
Jahdae Barron
A reach for Jahdae Barron in the 142nd pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146
Rnd5
Aubrey Burks
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Aubrey Burks at slot 146. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick155
Rnd5
Bryson Nesbit
A slide stopped in pick No. 155, with Bryson Nesbit worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick184
Rnd6
Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard in the 184th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick196
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jack Kiser. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick206
Rnd7
Preston Stone
Nice patience on Preston Stone, who had no business lasting to pick 206. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
