Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC- NeedB TradesC+ FutureB
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Steelers: C+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with Fabien Lovett in the 123rd pick. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Mims pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, safety and other spots.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Kalen King
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick59 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran in pick 59 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick65 Rnd3 Amarius Mims
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Amarius Mims adds an offensive lineman and leaves quarterback, safety and other spots untouched.
Pick98 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Junior Colson in pick No. 98 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick104 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
They jumped the gun on Jalen McMillan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123 Rnd4 Fabien Lovett
Fabien Lovett at the 123rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick201 Rnd6 Isaiah Adams
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Adams in No. 201, and that is fine. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick244 Rnd7 Rylie Mills
They talked themselves into Rylie Mills at the 244th overall pick, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
