Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Ratledge: B+.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Steelers watched Tate Ratledge slide 51 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Giddens has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick56 Rnd2 Trey Amos
Value with a capital V on Trey Amos in pick 56, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick84 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
A premium they did not need to pay, Darius Alexander a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tate Ratledge
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tate Ratledge reach Round 4, Pick 21 and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick156 Rnd5 DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens in pick No. 156 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick185 Rnd6 CJ West
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on CJ West. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick229 Rnd7 Upton Stout
Upton Stout in No. 229 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
