The board owed the Steelers one, and it paid up: Cobee Bryant, the No. 186 name on the board, sitting there at the 231st overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The cost of the Cook reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
