Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A franchise passer in Nix headlines a B- weekend for the Steelers.

Start where it matters. The Steelers took Bo Nix to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Van Pran has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

The Steelers indulged a want in Puni while a need in interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots stayed open. The Green value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Bo Nix
In No. 20 they get a franchise quarterback, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick51 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
A wild overpay on Sedrick Van Pran in the Round 2 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick84 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots to take Dominick Puni, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jaylin Simpson
They paid a round early for Jaylin Simpson in the 120th overall pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick121 Rnd4 Renardo Green
Renardo Green at slot 121 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick197 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
A reach on Nathaniel Watson in the 197th pick; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
A real head-scratcher, Joshua Cephus in Round 7, Pick 18 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
