Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-.

The Steelers put a flag in the ground for Frank Gore Jr., 31 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Steelers indulged a want in Puni while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open. Bullock falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 20 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They liked Zach Frazier enough to skip the value, taking him in the 51st overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick84 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Dominick Puni in Round 3, Pick 20 leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick98 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Nice patience on Calen Bullock, who had no business lasting to pick 98. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones in slot 119 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178 Rnd6 Khristian Boyd
No drama and no debate, Khristian Boyd went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick195 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
A wild overpay on Frank Gore Jr. in the 195th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
