Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Williams from sliding. Grade: D-.

The phones were a trap the Steelers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Frazier pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots. They will need Jones to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Getting Williams where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In No. 20 they get a ballhawk on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick52 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at pick No. 52, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick55 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Zach Frazier while clear needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick84 Rnd3 Marist Liufau
They took Marist Liufau at par in Round 3, Pick 20, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kris Abrams-Draine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick121 Rnd4 Malik Washington
Malik Washington in slot 121 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick156 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in the 156th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick198 Rnd6 Christian Jones
Christian Jones in pick No. 198 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick238 Rnd7 Isaiah Williams
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 238 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
