Arcadiuz DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Johnson: B. When a board-topper like Greg Johnson slides to the 195th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Mills pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Jeremiah Smith
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
Will Heldt
No drama and no debate, Will Heldt went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 12. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ahmad Moten Sr.
A quiet steal in slot 75: Ahmad Moten Sr. for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick112
Rnd4
Brandon Baker
Brandon Baker slipping to the 112th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick160
Rnd5
Robert Fitzgerald
Nice patience on Robert Fitzgerald, who had no business lasting to the 160th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick182
Rnd6
Mateen Ibirogba
They will replay Mateen Ibirogba at pick 182 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick195
Rnd6
Greg Johnson
They barely believed it either: Greg Johnson still on the board at pick No. 195. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick212
Rnd6
Walker Lyons
Walker Lyons at No. 212 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick250
Rnd7
Drew Bobo
Circle this one: Drew Bobo at pick 250 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick257
Rnd7
Monroe Mills
A reach for Monroe Mills in slot 257; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
